A well-established and growing professional services firm is looking to expand its accounting support team. Known for delivering tailored financial solutions to clients across the North West, the firm is now seeking a part-time Bookkeeper to join its busy St Helens office.
Role Overview:
The Bookkeeper will take responsibility for the day-to-day processing of financial transactions for a portfolio of clients. The role involves regular reconciliation, VAT return preparation, and monthly reporting, and offers the opportunity to work with a variety of businesses using leading accounting software.
Key Responsibilities:
•Process day-to-day transactions in line with bookkeeping standards
•Maintain and reconcile purchase, sales, and general ledgers
•Prepare and submit VAT returns in accordance with HMRC guidelines
•Perform bank reconciliations and manage debtor/creditor ledgers
•Assist in the preparation of monthly/quarterly management accounts (with support)
•Apply accounting principles, including accruals, prepayments, and cut-off adjustments
•Extract and compile financial data from platforms such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, etc.
•Provide ad hoc support for payroll processing when required (desirable)
Candidate Requirements:
•Proven experience in a bookkeeping or internal accounting role
•Strong knowledge of accounting systems such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or FreeAgent
•Competent with Microsoft Excel and financial reporting functions
•Comfortable working independently and managing deadlines across multiple clients
•Ideally some payroll processing knowledge (e.g., via Sage Payroll), though not essential
•Strong attention to detail and sound understanding of financial controls
