Maudsley Health, in conjunction with MACANI LLC, is recruiting a Clinical Director (Consultant Psychiatrist) to provide clinical leadership for the Intellectual Disability Clinical Academic Group at the new Maudsley Health Hospital in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The post holder will lead and support the implementation of a high-quality, evidence-based service and ensure accreditation is achieved.
The role involves delivering effective, highly specialist assessments and treatments in accordance with UK and UAE professional guidelines, working with a multidisciplinary team. The consultant will be involved in assessment and management, especially of complex cases with psychiatric and psycho-social factors.
Responsibilities include providing clinical care, developing clinical, research, and training programs, and maintaining clinical governance in line with national and international policies.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide clinical expertise, support assessment, treatment, and consultation for patients within their Clinical Academic Group.
Lead and develop the Clinical Academic Group in collaboration with the Service Director.
Monitor KPIs and outcome measures, and implement corrective actions when needed.
Participate in training of staff and contribute to education locally, nationally, and regionally.
Engage in research activities as appropriate.
Participate in operational management meetings and adhere to the job plan and appraisal procedures.
Develop job plans and appraisals for staff under their line management.
Support service development in Abu Dhabi, working closely with senior management and other providers in the Middle East.
About us
Following an international tender, Maudsley Health secured a contract to deliver inpatient care in Abu Dhabi. The team will include experienced clinicians and support staff to operate at the new Maudsley Health Hospital, which will open in 2025 with 138 beds across 11 wards. The hospital will offer inpatient, day care, outpatient, and specialist services, with a focus on innovation and training, supported by South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. An Academic Director will be appointed to embed research and training facilities.

Developing policies and procedures to ensure high-quality, safe clinical services.
Promoting diversity and accessibility in services.
Collecting activity data for performance management and service planning.
Maintaining clinical databases and records.
Participating in management meetings and applying quality standards in all work.
Upholding integrity and professionalism, enhancing the reputation of Maudsley Health, MACANI, and SLAM.
Attending professional meetings and leading research and audit projects, supporting junior staff in these activities.
Maintaining GMC registration, CPD, and compliance with training requirements.
Line management responsibilities include monitoring job plans, productivity, policy adherence, sick leave, and cover arrangements.
Person Specification
Education
* CCT
* Higher degree or additional qualifications
Training and Experience
* Completion of Higher Psychiatric Training in Intellectual Disability Psychiatry
* Experience in psychiatric inpatient management
* Approved training in therapeutic practices such as CBT
Leadership
* Knowledge of Clinical Governance principles
* Experience in service development and strategic processes

This role requires a DBS check due to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
