Job Summary
The Temporary Works Lead manages all aspects of the design, including coordination, submission, compliance, programming and management of design, engineering and assurance, maintaining and updating the Temporary Works Procedure (WI300). The Temporary Works Leads is responsible for fulfilling the Contractor's responsibilities under BS5975 and the Employer's Temporary Works Procedure. The Temporary Works Lead will makes sure that the Temporary Works procedure will comply with:

* HS2 Temporary Works Procedure,
* BS5975 'Code of practice for Temporary Works procedures and the permissible stress design of falsework',
* BSI PAS 8811 'Temporary works – Major infrastructure client procedures – Code of practice'
* BSIPAS 8812 'Temporary works – Application of European Standards in design – Guide' and 'Technical Standard – Temporary Works' (HS2‐HS2‐CV‐STD‐000‐000005)

Temporary Works Designers, Supervisors and checkers will be appointed as and when required by the Designated Individual or the TWC in accordance with the Temporary Works Procedure. The TWC has appropriate authority to perform the role effectively; this will include authority to stop work if it is not being carried out satisfactorily.

Key Responsibilities
The role and responsibilities of the TWC include but are not limited to the following:

* Being the first point of contact between the designers of Temporary Works and the site team
* Co-ordination of all Temporary Works activities and appointment of Temporary Works Supervisors
* Developing the procedures for the control of Temporary Works and ensuring they are implemented on site
* Ensuring that the various responsibilities have been allocated and accepted by the relevant parties (Designated Individual, TWS and Construction team etc.)
* Ensuring that a design brief is prepared (with appropriate consultation), is adequate and is in accordance with the actual site requirements (design brief is prepared by the construction team and reviewed/ approved by the TWC)
* Ensuring that a satisfactory Temporary Works design is carried out, that appropriate design checks are completed and that the design has been approved
* Ensuring the independence of checks by delegating the checking to another individual when required
* Where appropriate, ensuring that the Temporary Works design is made available to other interested parties (for example the CDM Co-ordinator)
* Maintaining all records relating to the final design of the Temporary Works including drawings, calculations and other relevant documents
* Ensuring that those responsible for constructing the Temporary Works receive full details of the design, including any limitations and guidance notes associated with it and prepare a specific method statement
* Ensuring the Temporary Works design is implemented in accordance with the drawings and specification (delegated to TWS)
* Reviewing actual conditions against conditions assumed in the Temporary Works design and take appropriate actions where conditions have deviated from those assumed (delegated to TWS)
* Ensuring that any proposed changes in materials or construction are checked against the original design and appropriate action taken
* Ensuring that a Change Control process is in place, that any agreed changes or remedial action are done properly and controlled & monitored on site
* Not permitting erection to continue beyond any critical stage until construction is of the required standard
* Permitting the loading of Temporary Works and ensuring compliance with the loading method statement (delegated to TWS and verified by the TWC)
* Ensuring that maintenance of the Temporary Works is done (delegated to construction team)
* Following confirmation that the permanent structure has attained adequate strength, issuing formal permission to dismantle the Temporary Works and specifying any sequencing of the operation that is required.
* To ensure the independence of checks by delegating the checking to another individual when required via the Temporary Works Supervisor.
* To ensure that all appropriate maintenance and inspection of the Temporary Works is carried out.

Technical Skills And Competencies

* Have excellent communication skills (including presentation skills) in English, both written and verbal and the ability to report at both Project and Board level.
* Ability to manage teams of people in a multi-disciplinary environment. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to plan ahead and manage own time.
* A good working knowledge of the: Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Construction Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations 1996, Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015, management of health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and other relevant legislation

Qualifications, Certifications And Experience

* Experience within a similar role within an appropriately sized engineering organisation.
* Educated to degree or higher level or equivalent in a numerate discipline, typically Engineering discipline (or related). A lower educational level, typically HNC or HND, may be acceptable where a very significant level of experience in a senior technical engineering role can be demonstrated.
* Membership of an appropriate Professional body, typically Chartered member of Institute of Civil Engineering or an international equivalent professional status.
