Early Years Area SENCO
Required: As soon as possible (January )
Due to increased demand, an opportunity has arisen to join a skilled team of Early Years Teachers and Area SENCOs, providing advice to educational settings and childminders to develop inclusion and Special Educational Needs provision. Successful candidates, with support from SSLSO’s, are essential in developing professional practice, in settings, for pupils with; social communication needs, social emotional mental health and learning support needs. We are looking for someone who has existing experience in the field, as well as a team player who understands the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Area SENCO’s work across cluster areas to enhance the Team Around the Early Years model with Wakefield Council:
1. Wakefield Central, Northwest and Southwest
2. Normanton, Featherstone & Southeast
3. Castleford, Airedale, Pontefract and Knottingley
The current position will predominantly be working within the Wakefield cluster areas, continuing the hard work that the current Area SENCo. You will liaise with two other Area SENCo’s, who cover the remaining cluster areas, so that settings are provided with a consistent high-quality service. The position will include working with childminders across the Wakefield district, as well as other early years providers.
We are looking for candidates with knowledge and experiences of:
4. Pupils with needs of ASD/social communication, social emotional mental health, learning support.
5. The ability to fulfil teacher standards as well as adhere to the SEN Code of Practice, providing a graduated response to pupils who may have and SEN.
6. The ability to provide specialist support and advice to pupils, schools, families and other agencies with respect to children and young people with additional needs.
7. Knowledge of PVI (private day nursery) settings and childminders, how they support children in the early years and how they can facilitate an inclusive environment.
8. The ability to use assessments and observations to identify a range of needs and provide strategies to enhance inclusive provision.
9. Who can promote and support the achievement of all children through work with officers, agencies, schools, families and pupils where support is required to ensure inclusion of needs.
The post is full time teacher pay and conditions (27.5hrs TTO) – staff are required to work in line with that of a full-time teacher, despite the flexibility of working across a number of settings to provide advice for SEND. Candidates are also required to travel to a number of settings per day to be able to cover allocated caseloads.
