The position is based at Woodend Hospital in Aberdeen and requires a successor to a retired Consultant Team member. The role provides Rehabilitation Medicine Consultant input at the Major Trauma Centre in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI) and at the Neurorehabilitation Unit (NRU) at Woodend Hospital. Sessional commitments include outpatient clinics for patients transitioning into adult services, posture or movement disorders, and management of patients receiving Botulinum Toxin injections and Baclofen pumps.
As a member of a vibrant team of Consultants, the post holder will contribute to the existing Grampian Specialist Rehabilitation services across Woodend Hospital, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and community settings. Duties may be reallocated within the Consultant team according to strengths and special interests.
The role works closely with specialist nursing colleagues and a wide range of allied health professional disciplines, including Neuropsychology, Prosthetics, Orthotics and the wheelchair service. It involves acute work at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Inpatient Rehabilitation Units at Woodend Hospital, and community work.
The Department also provides undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and engages in research.
Registration and Eligibility
* Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required before starting in post.
* UK-trained doctors must have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register at interview.
* CESR or Portfolio Pathway doctors are eligible for a substantive Consultant post only once specialist registration is awarded.
* Doctors with an Internationally Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by GMC must have confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
* Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not on the GMC Specialist Register may be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive appointment is made, and may apply for CESR or Portfolio Pathway registration while locum.
