Specialty Doctor – Child Development Centre, Hillingdon Hospital Site

Permanent, 10 PAs

This post is a Specialty Doctor in Community Child Health and Neurodisability. The postholder is expected to work autonomously and as part of the multidisciplinary team and will receive the right support when needed. The post holder will work closely with other medical colleagues to provide safeguarding, including child protection and children looked after, and neuro disability services. Training will be provided depending on the learning needs of the postholder. The postholder will be accountable to the Lead Clinician and Clinical Director.

This post is a full‑time post with 10 Programmed Activities. Applicants wishing to work less than full time can also apply for this post. Office accommodation and secretarial support, access to PC, email, and Internet will be provided. The post holder will be a member of a young and vibrant Community Paediatrician Team and will work in a variety of settings such as the Child Development Centre, CAMHS, Children’s Centres, Schools, Nurseries, the child’s home or in other primary care settings. There is no mandatory out‑of‑hours on‑call commitment in this post.

The team holds a weekly peer supervision (case discussion) meeting and monthly Safeguarding supervision meeting with hospital colleagues. Regular teaching and training opportunities occur locally and Trust‑wide as part of the Community of Practice Learning Programme. The postholder will also be able to join regional networks such as neurodisability, CNWL Community Paediatricians and epilepsy networks. They are actively involved in national research projects, audit and QI projects. The postholder will work closely with Paediatric colleagues and the multidisciplinary team to assess, manage, plan, and deliver care in an integrated model. The post holder will be an effective team member whilst working on their own initiative. They will supervise medical students and trainees as appropriate.

The post holder will have the opportunity to be the lead for the department for Safeguarding, an advisory role for SEND, safeguarding and/or sensorineural hearing loss. Other areas of special interest are encouraged where they are consistent with the department’s responsibilities to deliver and develop services to meet the needs of local children.

The postholder will share the overall clinical responsibility with the other Community Paediatricians for the standard of Paediatric medical care. In this context the post holder will strive to maintain the highest standard of care for patients. This includes commitment to clinical governance.

Goodall Division is responsible for the delivery of Mental Health and community Learning Disability services in Hillingdon, as well as all CNWL’s specialist rehabilitation provision and CAMHS provision in NW London. We also deliver community physical health services in a number of boroughs in NW London, including Hillingdon, Harrow, Ealing and neighbouring system of North Central London.

Roles and responsibilities

Clinical activities:

* Child Development and Comorbidity clinics and related administrative work
* Covering for Child protection medical assessments (excluding sexual abuse) during working hours
* Children looked after clinics
* Clinical triage/screening of referrals
* MDT clinical discussions or meetings
* Any clinical patient‑related meetings and activities

Teaching:

* To contribute to departmental teaching and regional/national educational meetings
* To contribute to teaching of paediatric trainees, medical students and other MDT staff

Management and leadership:

* Audit, quality improvement and service development
* Clinical governance
* Educational and Management supervision

Expected responsibilities:

* Accurate and timely documentation of clinic consultations and care plans
* To work to the agreed job plan and provide safe effective service and achieve departmental KPIs
* Act as an autonomous, registered practitioner who is legally and professionally accountable for own unsupervised actions guided by the professional code of conduct and Trust guidelines and protocols
* Have full registration with a licence to practice with the General Medical Council (GMC)
* Gain further professional knowledge through accredited courses, workshops, study and in‑house training programmes to satisfy the credit hours recommended by RCPCH
* To contribute to training, teaching, research and quality improvement projects of the department
* To develop organisational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them
* To work within the team to ensure effective risk management by accident/incident reporting, assessing, and controlling risk and ensuring residual risks are added to the Trust register
* To participate in established peer supervision / Safeguarding supervision sessions
* To engage with Children’s Community of Practice in CNWL to develop and provide standard best practice
