Engineering Manager

Contract: Full-time, Permanent, Hybrid (2 days per week in office)
EverQuote is seeking an engineering leader with an entrepreneurial spirit and strong interpersonal and managerial skills. As a leader on the Sites team, you will play a key role by working closely with engineers and teams to improve the efficiency, throughput, on-time delivery, quality, platform extensibility, and engineering culture.

What You'll Be Doing
* Design and delivery of key business applications and solutions.
* Coach and mentor junior engineers within the team and organisation.
* Adhere to our Software Development processes whilst improving our Engineering culture by identifying and addressing inefficiencies in our processes.
* Proactively engage with cross-functional stakeholders including Product Managers and Architecture team.
Essential Criteria
* A third-level degree in an Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
* A minimum of 5 years’ professional programming experience, including time spent at a software product company.
* Prior experience as an Engineering Manager or Tech Lead with a track record of growing high-performing teams.
* Strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
* Excellent stakeholder management and the ability to align technical execution with business priorities.
* Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, etc.).
Desirable Criteria
* Experience with UI development, especially in React or other modern frontend frameworks.
* Strong knowledge of microservice-based architectures.
* Familiarity with secure development practices.
* Experience mentoring or managing engineers.
* Exposure to engineering systems or applications at scale.
* Experience using continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, CircleCI).
* Experience in at least one of the following technical areas:
o Supporting cloud platforms at scale (AWS)
o Working with Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
o Container orchestration environments (preferably Kubernetes)
o Observability platforms (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog)
