This is an exciting opportunity to join a large andinnovative team within County Durham and Darlington, with approximately 4200deliveries per year across both sites.
We are looking to recruit a Consultant Obstetrician andGynaecologist. This is a permanent post.We are looking for someone withgeneralist skills but there will be opportunity and support to further developskills through working closely with colleagues in specialist areas. ATSMs in, Benign Abdominal Surgery, andHysteroscopy and TOP as well as advanced ANcare are particularly welcomed.
The post will involve a weekly gynaecology andANC and a Caesarean Section list. The gynaecology clinics will be diagnosticclinics with both diagnostic and surgical hysteroscopy capability, There willbe opportunity for gynaecology theatre sessions either under supervision orindependently dependent on the post-holders level of experience. Daytime Labour Ward will be one 24 hour day inthree weeks and the weekend Rota is split weekends, 1:55
Main duties of the job
Weekly ANC, Diagnostic and treatment gynaecology clinics,advice and guidance for GP's, Triage. More specialist clinic or sessionsnegotiable dependent on interests and experience, and needs of the department(eg Vulval clinic, menstrual disorders clinic, TOP service, Caesarean sectionlist, etc). Gynaecology theatresessions, either independent or supervised, dependent on level of experienceand wishes. Obstetric and Gynaecology oncall.
The post holder will participate in the Tier 3non-resident on-call rota at Darlington Memorial hospital. This is alsocurrently a 1:11 frequency. In additionthe postholder will be required to provide educational supervision for theresident doctors in the deparment, provide teaching sessions and occasionallysupport the undergraduate teaching

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Clinical Responsibilities
To assessindividual care needs, develop, implement and evaluate care given to patientsin conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.

The post is Trust wide, but it is expected that the majorityof activity will be based at the UHND site, and its surrounding community bases
Providespecialist Obstetrics & Gynaecology services to patients across the Trust
Diagnostic/EmergencyGynaecology surgery depending on post holder experience and skills
Attend theEvidence Based Guidelines meetings, review and updating Obstetrics &Gynaecology guidelines.
Work wellin a multi-disciplinary team with enthusiasm to lead and develop services
Undertakeclinical shifts in the Department at the direction of the Clinical Director forObstetrics and Gynaecology including participation in the on-call/out ofhours/weekend rotas
Conductregular clinical reviews of patients at appropriate intervals with doctors intraining ensuring that the patient records (including discharge summaries) areaccurately up-dated after review of each patient
Conductsclinical review and clinical management of patients referred to Outpatientservices
Supportsand liaises with patients, families, colleagues, support staff and externalagencies to provide coordinated multidisciplinary care
Takes aleadership and mentoring role for doctors in training and others within theDepartment
Responsiblefor covering Colleagues periods of annual leave and short-term sickness
Person Specification
Experience
* ATSM or equivalent in Advanced Labour Ward Practice.
* ATSM or equivalent in gynaecology related areas
* ATSM or equivalent in TOP
* ATSM or equivalent in Benign Gynaecological surgery
* ATSM or equivalent in Hysteroscopy
* Educational interest
Qualifications
* Valid Full Registration with the General Medical Council
* Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists or equivalent.
* Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of AAC).
* On the specialist Register for the above or within 6 months of being admitted to the register by the AAC.
* Other relevant medical and non-medical training/degree.
* Management training.
Special Skills & Knowledge
* Clinical experience and competence in general and operative Obstetrics & Gynaecology
* Ability to organise workload efficiently.
* Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Enquiring, critical approach to work
* Evidence of understanding of role of clinical management.
* Knowledge of Audit process & Clinical Governance.
* Evidence of involvement in risk management processes, protocol development.
* Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional and national levels.
Statutory Registration
* Should have attained or be within 6 months of attaining CCT in specialty at time of interview.
