Job Purpose
* The Food Safety Officer / Environmental Health Officer (EHO) will be responsible for conducting food hygiene inspections and investigating complaints to ensure compliance with relevant food safety legislation.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
* Conduct routine and risk-based food hygiene inspections across various premises.
* Assess compliance with food safety legislation, codes of practice, and local authority standards.
* Provide clear feedback and guidance to food business operators to achieve compliance.
* Investigate food-related complaints, including food safety concerns and hygiene issues.
* Gather evidence, carry out inspections, and take appropriate enforcement action where necessary.
* Prepare reports and documentation to support enforcement decisions.
Essential Experience Required
* Experience in conducting food hygiene inspections and/or complaint investigations.
* Strong knowledge of food safety legislation and enforcement processes.
* Experience managing an independent caseload.
Essential Qualifications Required
* Environmental Health degree or equivalent qualification (or Food Safety qualification recognized by the FSA).
* Must be Food Competent in line with the Food Law Code of Practice.
* Registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) or equivalent (desirable).
Additional Information
* Working hours: 20 hours per week.
* Remote working.
* We operate on a bi-weekly schedule.
