Brief Description
We are now seeking an NVQ Assessor. This is an exciting opportunity to assess, monitor and sample learner output in order to prove competency for National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) and achieve the technical skills, knowledge and behaviours in order to deliver a Technician role within Network Rail in Milton Keynes.
About the role (External)
Main Responsibilities
1. Assess competence of learners against Level 3 Rail Engineering Technician for the NVQ Level 3 qualification to be awarded and other NVQ standards as required.
2. Provide guidance and support to learners enabling them to produce a portfolio of evidence which is then assessed to show their understanding and competence of and in rail engineering activities.
3. To attend, as required, standardisation meetings with Internal and External Qualification Assessors in conjunction with the awarding bodies standards for skills, knowledge and behaviours representing that the student has passed all of the criteria needed for the qualification.
4. Maintain the quality and integrity of assessment of the level 3 NVQ qualification by rigorously marking submitted portfolios and rejecting portfolios that do not meet the required standard, and where a student has not met provide them with a corrective action plan (CAP).
5. Complete 12 weekly reviews with each learner in relation to their NVQ to measure progression and where required implement an action plan to support the successful completion of any outstanding work.
6. Use a variety of assessment methods, including but not limited to; observation of the learner in the workplace, professional discussion, witness testimony and personal statements to accurately assess the level of competence and skills and knowledge held by a learner in relation to the Level 3 Rail Engineering Technician NVQ.
7. Marking and assessment of work submitted throughout the theory elements of the NVQ to provide meaningful feedback to learners and recording a grade to put towards the final awarding of the qualification.
8. Liaise with the Independent Qualification Authority to make assessment monitoring visits and internal quality assurance visits to demonstrate competence against the standard.
9. Maintain structured Continuous Professional Development (CPD) knowledge thoroughly against the awarding body standards and maintain and demonstrate the technical competence and skills to assess the competency of learners.

10. Subject Matter expert in the assessment of NVQ modules
11. Experienced rail maintenance professional
12. Level 3 teaching qualification
13. TAQA Assessor qualification or equivalent
14. Excellent communications skills (written and verbal)
15. Thorough knowledge of the technical, safety or vocational capabilities required within Network Rail
16. Ability to coach, motivate and inspire learners.
17. Proven interpersonal skills including presentation and facilitation.
18. Team player able to work collaboratively with learners, technical trainers and line management.
19. Proven ability to deal with matters of a confidential and sensitive nature appropriately and able to interact with students with a range of learning needs.
20. Rail Skills in at least one technical rail discipline
