Job summary
As a band 5 school nurse, you'll be part of our valued school nurse team based out of Greenways hub in Chippenham, working in Chippenham and surrounding areas. This post will be an all year round, fixed term position for 12 months starting from September 2025.
As part of the school nurse team, you will provide school-age children, young people, and their families with a service that promotes physical, mental, and emotional health, supporting families and carers through partnership working in a community setting. The aim is to reduce inequalities, safeguard children, and improve outcomes. You will hold a caseload and work mobile in the community, supporting children and young people in schools and at home through drop-in sessions, 1:1s, and contributing as part of a wider team in child protection and safeguarding in line with policies and procedures.
Main duties of the job
1. Understanding the concept of Clinical Governance and being skilled in identifying, assessing, and protecting vulnerable children and families.
2. Supporting the school nurse community service as part of the skill-mixed public health team.
3. Contributing to the development of the School Nursing Service in the locality through liaison with and support from the Specialist School Nurse, and implementing innovative practices to meet health needs.
4. Ensuring a child-centred service by actively engaging with young people in planning and delivering services in the locality.
5. Working across organizational boundaries to identify population health needs, aligning with organizational policies and priorities. Leading delegated work from the Specialist School Nurse, utilizing nursing skills in leadership, prioritization, and assessment.
6. Collaborating with key partners to address public health needs, advocating for children, young people, families, carers, and the school health service.
