Applicants invited for the post of ST1-2 Trust Grade (SHO Level) working at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN), Queen Square.
Posting Duration
12‑month posts beginning in August 2026. One remaining post beginning in June 2026 for up to eight months.
Experience
Preferred experience in general medicine in a UK hospital. Must be capable of managing overnight neurology inpatients without a registrar on site.
Teaching and Training
Daily teaching opportunities including grand rounds, case discussions, bedside teaching and consultant‑led tutorials. Two protected sessions are available: a weekly teaching session for MRCP PACES neurology and a weekly CMT teaching session tied to the curriculum.
Supervision
All trainees will have a named educational supervisor and an electronic portfolio for log progress.
Responsibilities
* Primary charge of day‑to‑day care of neurology patients.
* Clerking and performing neurological assessments on admission and discharge.
* Accurate update of patient records, liaising with multidisciplinary teams.
* Ensure discharge summaries are completed within the set timeframe.
* Rotate through weeks of inpatient ward work and daycare unit time.
* Shifts comprise standard hours (usually 8.30 am to 5 pm) and on‑call periods.

* Epilepsy and sleep disorders
* Parkinsonism and movement disorders
* Dementia and cognitive impairment
* Neuropathies and myopathies
* Neuro‑ophthalmology
* Autonomic dysfunction
* Neuromuscular complex care
* Neurological intensive care
* Stroke, including thrombolysis and rehabilitation
The hospital is located at Queen Square, minutes from Russell Square and Holborn underground stations, with good transport connections to national rail and bus networks.
