The role
The ICT Manager will lead and manage the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) function across Katharine House Hospice, which includes its support services office, local retail stores and our main Hospice site all located within easy reach of Stafford.
The role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and strategic development of IT systems and infrastructure, supporting the organisation's operational needs. This includes overseeing hardware, software, and networks; implementing the IT strategy; resolving technical issues; and managing the organisation's website and intranet in collaboration with external partners.
Part of the team
The role reports directly to the CEO, with direct line management responsibility for the IT Systems Administrator and the Business Systems Analyst. The role will also form part of the senior leadership team, working closely with all other Heads of Department and the Executive management.
Responsibilities & Outputs
Strategic IT and planning and implementation
* Design, deliver and continually develop an IT strategy aligned to organisational needs
* Manage contracts with third-party suppliers
* Lead migration of appropriate software applications to the cloud
* Collaborate with departments to assess software needs and conduct market reviews
* Contribute to the development and implementation of the organisational digital strategy
* Support the organisation's evolving Business Intelligence capabilities
IT Helpdesk and user support
* Oversee the in-house IT Helpdesk
* Manage and prioritise incoming support requests
* Monitor resolution times and ensure timely communication with users and prioritising requests
User access and system administration
* Manage user access permissions across the systems
* Oversee intranet structure and permissions in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team, ensuring technical aspects of the intranet are maintained
System maintenance and compliance
* Ensure operational systems are up to day and compliant with GDPR
* Update firmware and monitor physical servers and storage devices
* Apply security and vulnerability patches to server and client operating systems
* Monitor key network connections (WAN, LAN, HSCN) and liaise with vendors
ICT Resource and Team management
* Line manage the IT team and ICT volunteers
* Manage the ICT budget
* Maintain registers of ICT equipment, endpoint devices and software licences
* Create operating procedure manuals for business continuity and develop guidance and handbooks with the Learning and Development team
Policy and Governance
* Prepare and review ICT related policies and procedures
* Act as a proactive Head of Department and member of the Senior Leadership Team
* Develop and deliver relevant training courses
Training and Development
* Identify organisational IT training needs with the Learning and Development team
* Develop and deliver relevant training needs
Website and Intranet oversight
* Liaise with external website suppliers and the Marketing and Communications team to ensure website security and stability
* Monitor website performance, apply security patches and manage hosting infrastructure
Innovation and future technologies
* Bring insight into the deployment of emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence where appropriate
Competency Profile
Willingness to:
Travel occasionally to our other local sites to support managers, employees and our infrastructure, using own vehicle.
Need to have:
· Recognised IT qualification or equivalent experience
· Experience in a similar lead IT position
· Experience in designing, delivering and developing an IT strategy
· Experience in operating at a similar level of leadership
· Experience of managing window services essential
· Experience of managing server active directories essential
· Experience in managing data security - antivirus, malware and backups is highly desirable
· Experience in delivering exceptional helpdesk support
· Access to own vehicle for occasional travel and full UK driving licence
· Experience in SQL or crystal reporting processes are highly desirable as is experience in network management the management of firewalls
