The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lead Bridge Engineer to join our Amey Consulting team in Manchester, Newcastle, or Sheffield, with shared office space and remote work options. We welcome applications from Lead Engineers across this region.
Our Structures Team is involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering projects in Scotland, with values exceeding £1bn.
Amey manages the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, awarded in 2020 and 2022 respectively, with potential extension up to 12 years. We also have diverse projects across Scotland involving roads, bridges, and transportation infrastructure.
The Role
As a Lead Bridge Engineer, you will support the Design Team and work closely with Transport Scotland. You will lead projects, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with clients and stakeholders.
Responsibilities include:
* Leading a team to develop technically sound engineering solutions that meet standards and client requirements
* Preparing and reviewing designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation
* Overseeing junior staff and ensuring quality and compliance
* Managing project budgets and costs
* Liaising with clients and suppliers
* Contributing to bids and work-winning activities
* Promoting health and safety practices
What You Will Bring
* Experience and expertise in civil engineering, likely from a Senior Engineer role
* Ability to produce and check high-quality engineering designs
* Knowledge of health, safety, and welfare management
* Experience acting as a main engineering contact, e.g., CRE for Network Rail
* Strong understanding of design processes and software tools
* Good grasp of CDM, risk assessment, and hazard management
* Leadership and people management skills
* Chartered or Incorporated status is desirable
