An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated HCPC registered Clinical Scientist/Healthcare Scientist in the Molecular Pathology service based in NHS Lothian (Western General Hospital, the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, and including Lauriston site in 2025/26). The laboratory is part of the Scottish Strategic Network for Genomic Medicine, funded by the National Services Division, to provide Genetic and Molecular Pathology diagnostic testing in Scotland. Applications are invited from scientists with good interpersonal skills, a background in molecular pathology/cancer genomics, a strong interest in developing diagnostic services, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
The successful applicant will have a high level of responsibility in providing specialist molecular testing, including analysis, interpretation, and reporting of investigations, and responsibility for maintaining quality standards. The role includes contributing to the development of targeted gene panel-based approaches using next-generation sequencing, in accordance with departmental requirements.
Applicants should have experience working in a diagnostic laboratory with specialist clinical and scientific knowledge in diagnosing and monitoring solid tumours and haematological malignancies. Knowledge of various molecular methodologies, experience with analytical software, and interpretation of scientific data for reporting are preferable.
