Newham University Hospital is part of Barts Health NHS Trust which is the largest Trusts in England. The hospital is located in an area with very good transport links (DLR, Elizabeth Line, District Line, buses) and for those who like cycling the hospital can be easily reached through Greenway Footpath (cycleway)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint an inspirational, passionate and enthusiastic Tissue Viability Nurse (TVN) Specialist to join our tissue viability team and be part of TVN service at Barts Trust.

The post requires vision, innovation and the ability to work across professional boundaries, a real desire to provide the highest standards of patient care. This is a full time, permanent Monday -Friday, 9-5pm service.

You will be an enthusiastic and motivated individual with advanced clinical skills and will be able to work autonomously and able to provide expert and specialist support in relation to complex wounds to the clinical team, patients and care takers.

The post holder will work closely with Diabetes team, Vascular team, Podiatrists and Wound Care specialists to improve patient safety and share best practices.

Main duties of the job

•Provide autonomous specialist, holistic patient centred care and harm reducing clinical and management solutions to achieve skin integrity, optimal wound healing and preservation of tissue health

•Provide specialist, expert advice and education to support our clinical teams to deliver safe and compassionate care, reduce harm and improve patient experience

•Assist in Trust wide pressure ulcer reduction campaigns working in partnership with the Tissue Viability Hospital Service Lead and site Directors of Nursing to sustain and embed the improvements

•Provide expert advice on Tissue Viability related resources, equipment and products required for a safe and effective care across Barts Health

•Develop, review, and evaluate Trust wide Tissue viability policies, protocols/guidelines and adapt regional and national guidelines for local use

Essential criteria

1. Evidence of experience and knowledge in Tissue Viability
2. Experience of supporting other practitioners to deliver high quality care
3. Experience of working as part of a multi- disciplinary team
4. Leadership experience at a senior level
5. Experience of setting up and working within clinical governance frameworks
6. Ability to work autonomously and to prioritise and co-ordinate workload
7. Ability to work under pressure
8. High standards of record keeping and report writing
9. Experience of leading quality improvement projects
10. Experience of formal and informal teaching

Desirable criteria

11. Managerial experience and experience of leading a team

Skills

Essential criteria

12. Able to evidence clinical knowledge and skills in tissue viability, holistic patient assessment, complex wound assessment, treatment planning and evaluation
13. Leg ulcer management
14. Application of negative wound pressure therapy
15. Wound debridement
16. High level of personal professional accountability and working autonomously to achieve agreed objectives
17. Ability to negotiate and influence people to achieve change
18. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritise effectively
19. Capable of working with clinical and non-clinical staff at all levels, displaying excellent customer service skills
20. Excellent organisational skills with flexibility to adapt when required
21. Skills in teaching registered and unregistered staff, multidisciplinary team, carers and patients both formally and informally
22. Have good flexible influencing and motivating skills

Knowledge

Essential criteria

23. Knowledge of audit cycle
24. Understand the principles of Governance, PSIRF and particularly in relation to their service area
25. Awareness of the National Guidelines relevant to tissue viability
26. Knowledge of contemporary wound dressings and technologies
27. Knowledge of and interest in quality improvement techniques
28. Knowledge of different types of pressure relieving equipment

Qualifications

Essential criteria

29. Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
30. Graduate with relevant degree or equivalent
31. Recognised tissue viability qualification (level 3)
32. Teaching Qualification

33. Experience in managing a team

34. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to maintain communication with people on complex and at times sensitive matters
