The Vacancy
We’re looking forward to welcoming a Bids Manager to our Commercial Group Business Unit within our London, Edinburgh or Glasgow office. Joining our established Bids Team, you’ll bring skills and enthusiasm to help shape high‑impact proposals and pitch materials that really stand out.
What will your role look like?
As a Bid Manager, you will take full ownership of end‑to‑end tender delivery, translating client insight and competitive intelligence into compelling, differentiating proposals. You will shape winning strategies, work with multi‑disciplinary teams and ensure every submission reflects Hymans Robertson’s commitment to client focus and exceptional presentation quality.
Though this is a varied role, your key tasks will include:
1. Leading the full bid lifecycle for complex tenders (RFPs, RFQs), from early pre‑proposal activity through submission and into pitch preparation, acting as the central point of accountability throughout.
2. Developing and driving clear winning strategies, working collaboratively with Partners, subject matter experts and business development colleagues to align propositions to client drivers and evaluation criteria.
3. Championing best‑in‑class bidding practice, embedding Hymans Robertson’s approach to client insight, proposition development, persuasive storytelling, editorial rigour and creative design.
4. Producing high‑quality, differentiating proposals and presentations, taking a hands‑on role in research, solution structuring, content drafting, editing and continuous refinement up to submission.
5. Project managing bids to time, quality and compliance, creating and maintaining robust proposal plans and ensuring all activities are delivered to agreed standards and deadlines.
6. Facilitating and contributing to key bid governance stages, including qualification reviews, pre‑bid planning, kick‑off meetings, progress reviews and submission sign‑off.
7. Coordinating and manage inputs from subject matter experts, monitoring progress, resolving issues, and ensuring content is fully aligned, compliant and compelling.
8. Working closely with Designers, Document Managers and Bid Coordinators to deliver professional, visually engaging and client‑ready submissions.
9. Supporting continual improvement of bids and pitch processes, bringing new ideas, lessons learned and practical innovations that drive measurable improvement in win‑rate and efficiency.
10. Leveraging AI tools within the bid process, using them responsibly to enhance insight, efficiency, content development and quality control.
11. Managing submissions via online procurement portals, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timely completion.
12. Upholding Hymans Robertson’s information security standards, policies and procedures throughout the bid lifecycle.
To enjoy and succeed in this role, you will have/be:
13. Eager to grow your bids expertise and help shape winning strategies.
14. Enjoy turning ideas into clear, compelling stories for tenders and pitches.
15. Confident juggling priorities and hitting deadlines.
16. Build strong, positive relationships across teams and senior stakeholders.
17. Adapt your style easily to connect with different buyers and decision‑makers.
18. Proven experience in bid/proposal management is essential.
19. Strong understanding of best‑practice bid management principles across both new business and re-tender activity.
20. APMP qualification (or actively working towards one).
21. Experience of public sector procurement processes and regulatory environments.
22. Experience of pitch preparation and pitch coaching is not essential but would be advantageous.
We would also encourage applications from candidates who perhaps do not possess all the attributes and experience listed above but are competent with the majority and would be able to quickly develop the additional skills and experience required in post with our full support. We would also love to hear about other knowledge and experience you may have that is not listed but could be of interest.
In addition to a competitive salary and access to our profit share scheme, we offer:
23. A flexible selection of employee benefits, so you can choose a package that best matches your lifestyle and needs.
24. A collaborative and encouraging work environment where your thinking and ideas are encouraged.
25. On site mental health and wellbeing assistance.
26. A commitment to helping you develop both personally and professionally, with mentoring opportunities and access to our award-winning learning portal, Aspire.
27. Regular social activities, in addition to three days paid volunteering leave each year and a day’s leave to celebrate your birthday.
28. Hybrid working so you can enjoy the positive wellbeing of working from home as well as the benefits of meeting colleagues in our sociable, modern office environments – with the expectation of two ‘in-office’ days per week.
29. A flexible working window, allowing colleagues the freedom to work flexibly between the hours of 7am and 7pm.
Please note, we recruit on a rolling basis so early applications are recommended to avoid disappointment.
