Youth Worker, Bleeding Disorders Network Wales

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and innovative individual to join the Bleeding Disorder Network of Wales. We are looking for a Youth Worker to join our MDT to deliver a supportive youth work service, designed specifically around the needs of children, young people and young adults with Inherited Bleeding Disorders. They willdemonstrateenthusiasm, compassion and the ability to problem solvecreatively. Please contact us for more information or to arrange a visit. Main duties of the job

The post holder will contribute to the development of transition services and to act as an advocate and source of support for young patients aged 11 to 25 relating to their all-round cultural and diversity, developmental and emotional needs. To effectively deliver youth support to young adults within the Bleeding Disorder Network, including those teenagers requiring support whilst in the transitioning processes aged 11+. The position will require the ability to work unsupervised and exercise initiative in the co-ordination of their duties. This will include the continued development of youth work services within the service through identified project aims. The post holder will provide a wide range of appropriate recreational and social activities to enable young people to develop cognitive, social and emotional skills throughout the service. To work in collaboration with health colleagues to support gender specific servicesby supporting young women who have a bleeding disorder engage in joint gynaecological and carrier clinics. The post holder will work in partnership with the MDT in neighbouring health boards, attending outreach clinics.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Degree and Diploma qualification in Youth Work, Psychology or Social Work
* Additional qualifications and/or training relating to youth work management and leadership Accreditation Training e.g AQA Unit Award Scheme


Experience

* Substantial experience of delivering youth work practice with young people in a variety of settings
* Experience of working with young people with long-term health conditions and their families


Skills

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Effective in crisis work


Special Knowledge

* Effective in planning, implementation and decision making
* Experience of effective leadership. Insight into role and responsibilities of post


Personal Qualities

* Must be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
* Ability to speak Welsh. Ability to speak other languages.
