Automation and Controls Engineer
Location: East Kent with nationwide travel (fully expensed), Salary: c.£35-70k dependent on skills and experience + benefits + progression opportunities
Pearson Whiffin Recruitment's Manufacturing, Engineering and Technical team is exclusively representing a forward-thinking business with an impressive client base in their search for an Automation and Controls Engineer. This is a rare opportunity to join an innovative market leader in automation. The client is open to candidates with varying experience levels, with salaries reflecting experience.
Working as an engineer within this small but established, award-winning business, no two days will be the same.
Responsibilities include:
1. Collaborating effectively within a close-knit, skilled team
2. Engaging in both on-site and field-based assignments
3. Serving as a customer-facing brand ambassador, representing the company professionally across a portfolio of prestigious B2B clients
4. Supporting the design and delivery of bespoke automated systems for diverse industrial applications
5. Installing, maintaining, and commissioning SCADA and PLC systems with precision and efficiency
6. Conducting diagnostics, troubleshooting, and implementing proactive solutions to minimise downtime
7. Configuring hardware and software to meet detailed technical specifications
8. Consistently delivering exceptional service to internal teams and external clients
9. Applying strong problem-solving skills to technical challenges in dynamic environments
10. Working confidently with both high- and low-voltage switchgear systems
Candidate requirements:
* Degree (or equivalent) in Mechatronics, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or Robotics
* Solid understanding of switchgear systems
* Hands-on experience with SCADA systems and their applications
* Familiarity with PLC controls, with practical exposure
* Experience in industries such as power, automation, or robotics
* Professional and customer-focused approach
* Full UK driving licence and access to a personal vehicle
* Willingness to work on-site in East Kent and travel within the M25 corridor, with occasional international travel
* Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and passionate about digital innovation and technology in industrial environments
