Temporary Part-Time Visitor Ambassador DIRECTORATE: Place and Prosperity DEPARTMENT: Tourism LOCATION: Various locations within the Borough REPORTS TO: Visitor Services Co-ordinator SALARY SCALE: SCP 8 PURPOSE AND FUNCTION OF THE POST The post holders will be responsible for the provision of an efficient and comprehensive information and welcome service including, but not limited to, handling enquiries, clerical, administrative and cashier duties where appropriate. The post will have a primary location at either Cockle Row Cottages, Groomsport, or The Moat, Donaghadee, but may also involve working at other centres in Bangor, Newtownards, other parts of the Borough and occasionally elsewhere. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To deal with all enquiries from the public or outside bodies and to provide advice and information in connection with visitor services and events as appropriate. To maintain suitable statistics and records of enquiries as management information. To provide administrative support as required including updating Excel database and Word document reports. To assist in the delivery of Tourism publicity and promotional material to various outlets locally as required. To attend promotions, exhibitions and receptions as required. To be responsible for the opening and closing of the premises and if required, to act as key holder. To carry out light cleaning duties as and when required. For all roles excluding the Moat, candidates will be required to operate an EPOS till, credit card facilities and process ticket sales as required, deal with stock deliveries, assist pricing and merchandising retail items, and balance cash handling and associated duties such as float checks. To undertake any other duties that reflect the status, purpose, and function of this post. To comply with and promote equality and health and safety in accordance with Council Policies and legal requirements. NOTE: Availability to work weekends and Public Holidays is essential Casual appointments will also be made from this recruitment exercise EMPLOYEE SPECIFICATION The person specification provides information on the qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills required to carry out the duties of the post. The essential criteria will be used for shortlisting and as part of the selection process. CATEGORY QUALIFICATIONS Essential: 5 GCSEs at grades AC (or equivalent) including English and Maths. Desirable: None specified. CATEGORY EXPERIENCE Essential: One year's experience in a customer service role dealing with the public. Desirable: One year's experience in a customer service role dealing face to face with the public in a Tourism-related or front of house function. CATEGORY KEY SKILLS & ABILITIES Essential: Excellent customer focus skills. High level of written and verbal communication skills. Desirable: Proficient in use of Outlook, Excel and Word. CATEGORY OTHER REQUIREMENTS Essential: Ability to work weekends and Public Holidays. A valid driving licence with access to a form of transport that will allow fulfilment of the duties of the post, or have access to a suitable form of transport which will enable the post holder to meet the requirements of the post*. Hold Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or be prepared to obtain the Certificate specifically for the Cockle Row Cottages post. *The above alternative (access to a suitable form of transport) is a reasonable adjustment specifically for applicants with disabilities, who as a result of their disability, are unable to hold a valid driving licence.
