Job Description:
As part of the ABS team, you will work within an organization with several plan approval centers across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. You will handle a variety of new build and existing ship projects in the marine and offshore sectors as part of a medium-sized team of experienced engineers. Your work will involve plan review and providing technical support to clients and surveyors on vessel structure, stability, load line, tonnage, fire protection, and safety.
Responsibilities include engineering design review and analysis for major or multiple smaller projects, applying conventional engineering knowledge, and developing understanding of policies, methods, and procedures through challenging assignments.
What You Will Do:
* Perform detailed engineering review of plans for compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and contracts with minimal supervision.
* Provide technical advice to field operations and technical offices.
* Address moderately complex engineering problems, resolve conflicting design requirements, and coordinate among disciplines.
* Propose new solutions and recommend changes to methods, procedures, or designs.
* Draft accurate reports and responses timely.
* Interact with clients to resolve technical issues.
* Prepare weekly reports and billing documentation.
* Communicate workload status to team members to meet client needs.
* Work collaboratively within the team and autonomously once trained.
* Implement ABS Quality System requirements after training.
* Perform vessel structure scantling review, stability modeling, load line and tonnage calculations, fire and safety plan review, and general plan approval for marine and offshore vessels.
* Deliver work within agreed timelines and procedures.
* Manage internal and external client relationships.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience:
* Degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or related fields; a master's may be preferred.
* Proven computer literacy in engineering software.
* Exposure to Finite Element Method ( coursework or research ).
* Knowledge of Class Rules and Regulations (SOLAS, ICLL, MCA Large Yacht Code, MARPOL, SPS Code, MODU Code).
* Experience with engineering software for structural and stability calculations.
* Design experience on small vessels (Yachts, High Speed Craft, Tugs), large vessels (Container Carrier, Tanker, Bulk Carrier), or Offshore Units.
* Familiarity with ship operations and shipbuilding practices is beneficial.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Understanding of classification and quality concepts, practices, and procedures.
* Knowledge of related technical disciplines.
* Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and propose solutions.
* Proficiency in English, both oral and written.
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
Reporting Relationships:
Reports directly to the Director or higher; no direct reports.
