We are excited to welcome applications for a Lecturer in Automotive to join our Automotive Engineering team at Sandwell College. This is a fantastic opportunity for an industry-experienced professional who is passionate about developing the next generation of automotive technicians.
About the Role
As a Lecturer in Automotive, you will support and inspire learners preparing for successful careers in the automotive industry. You will plan and deliver engaging, innovative lessons that promote active learning, practical skill development, and industry readiness.
You do not need to hold a teaching qualification at the point of application; however, you must have strong industry experience, a Level 3 automotive qualification, and a willingness to work towards a recognised teaching qualification. You will play a key role in curriculum delivery, learner support, and continuous improvement within the Automotive Engineering department.
Responsibilities
1. Deliver high-quality teaching, training, and assessment in vehicle mechanics
2. Design engaging lessons and assessments that promote active and accelerated learning
3. Use ILT and multimedia resources to enhance teaching and learning
4. Deliver programmes in line with the college prospectus and curriculum plan
5. Participate in curriculum development and continuous improvement activities
6. Monitor learner progress, achievement, and retention, addressing issues proactively
7. Work collaboratively within the automotive team, contributing ideas and feedback
8. Maintain up-to-date industry knowledge through CPD
9. Ensure teaching is delivered to the highest standards at all times
10. Comply with college policies, safeguarding, health & safety, and data protection
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
11. GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above or equivalent)
12. NVQ Level 3 qualification in Automotive (or equivalent)
13. Minimum of 5 yearsβ industry experience
14. Experience of teaching or training in an educational or workplace setting
15. Strong knowledge of current automotive industry practices
16. Good IT, administrative, and organisational skills
17. Ability to present information using ILT
18. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
19. Commitment to equality, diversity, and safeguarding
20. Willingness to work flexibly, including evenings and across sites
21. Prepared to work towards a teaching qualification
Desirable
22. Certificate in Education or Level 5 Teaching Qualification
23. Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
