In light of The Scottish Government's proposal to develop and deliver High Secure Services for Women in Scotland, an exciting opportunity has arisen for qualified Registered Nurses (Mental Health or Learning Disability) to join our innovative nursing team at the State Hospital.
We seek conscientious individuals committed to delivering high-quality nursing care. Registered nurses specializing in Mental Health or Learning Disability are invited to apply. You will be an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, ensuring patients receive person-centred care in an environment balancing care with risk management.
As a forensic healthcare practitioner, you must work well under pressure and remain calm in challenging situations. Teamwork is essential, alongside the ability to work autonomously and manage your workload.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team are required, including relaying clinical decisions and exercising clinical judgment.
Previous experience in forensic healthcare is helpful but not essential. The hospital offers excellent opportunities for ongoing professional development.
We share NHS Scotland’s core values: care and compassion; dignity and respect; openness, honesty, and responsibility; quality and teamwork, which are central to our service delivery.
The shift pattern supports a good work-life balance, with a 4 days on, 2 days off schedule, generated up to 12 weeks in advance. Night shifts are also rostered, with an average of 75 hours per fortnight during night duty.
This vacancy is for all ward locations within the State Hospital.
For informal discussions, contact Senior Charge Nurses Hazel Crawford at 01555 842166 or Kelly Hill at 01555 842106.
Closing date: 20 May 2025 at 11:59 pm.
Interviews will be held in person at the State Hospital during the week starting 2 June 2025.
If you have questions or need assistance with the application process, contact the HR Team at [emailprotected].
NHS Scotland is committed to equality and diversity, welcoming applications from all sections of society. The State Hospital is a high-security facility; applicants should be aware of age restrictions for clinical roles (18+), and non-clinical roles may be open to under 18.
Right to Work: Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK without sponsorship, evidenced through appropriate visas or settled status. The hospital is not licensed to issue sponsorship certificates.
Reduced Working Week: From 1 April 2024, NHS Scotland will reduce the working week to 37 hours for full-time staff, with pro-rata adjustments for part-time staff. Implementation may vary by department to ensure safety and service continuity.
