Are you looking for an Occupational Therapy role working with children & families? We are recruiting for a full‑time post in our Community Paediatric OT Service. The post holder will be based at the Child Development Centre in Bury St Edmunds and cover community patches across a wider geographical area; much of the working week will be spent in the community. We work with children from birth to 19 years, providing assessment, intervention and advice to promote inclusion and optimise the functional participation of children and young people in daily activities. We support and empower them and their families, and educate other professionals and agencies working with them.
Responsibilities
* Undertake Occupational Therapy assessments of children and prioritise, plan, and develop a programme of OT intervention using a client‑centred approach in accordance with our clinical pathways, and with supervision and support from an experienced therapist.
* Set clear functional goals in consultation with parents and teachers.
* Empower parents and carers in understanding the nature of their child's disability or dysfunction, its impact on behaviour and function, and the activities and strategies they can use to develop their child's play and functional abilities.
* Manage a caseload across nurseries, special and mainstream schools, the child's home and clinics.
* Travel independently across a wide geographical area that has limited public transport.
* Participate in supervision, CPD and training opportunities and support audit and quality improvement activities.
Location and Travel
* Based at the Child Development Centre, Bury St Edmunds.
* Frequent travel across a rural area is essential; a full current driving licence and access to personal transport or equivalent is required.
Person Specification – Essential
* Degree or equivalent diploma in Occupational Therapy.
* HCPC Registration.
* Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio.
* Demonstration of clinical assessment and intervention knowledge.
* Knowledge, training and experience of a range of treatment techniques and approaches.
* Ability to work autonomously, set priorities, analyse and reflect on clinical, professional and ethical issues.
* Effective communication, negotiation and teamwork skills.
* Ability to cope with emotional environments and understand cultural diversity.
* Physical ability to carry out moderate to intense effort through concurrent activities.
* Subject to DBS check.
Person Specification – Desirable
* Membership of Specialist Interest Group (Children, Young People and Families).
* Membership of RCOT.
* Previous NHS based experience as a therapist or student.
* Experience and working knowledge of children.
* Experience of supervisory role in clinical supervision.
* Flexibility in approach to service delivery.
* Car Driver with a UK driving licence.
