We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Operational Risk Manager to support the Head of Risk in strengthening and overseeing the organisation’s operational risk framework. This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring risks are identified, assessed, monitored, and effectively mitigated across all business functions.
The successful candidate will help drive continuous improvement in risk processes, maintain and enhance risk registers, conduct risk assessments, perform second line controls, and guide stakeholders in making informed decisions to reduce operational risk exposure.
Key Responsibilities
* Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to identify, measure, and monitor operational risks.
* Conduct business impact assessments and support the implementation of effective control measures.
* Perform quarterly second line controls, ensuring risks are appropriately managed and developing action plans for any emerging issues.
* Lead the annual Operational Risk Mapping process, applying Basel risk categories to ensure comprehensive risk coverage.
* Test the adequacy and effectiveness of first-line controls, highlighting improvements and corrective actions where needed.
* Conduct root cause analysis of operational events and develop strategies to prevent future occurrences.
* Promote a strong risk-aware culture, acting as a subject matter expert and fostering collaborative relationships across the organisation.
* Support ad-hoc and recurring projects, including segregation of duties analysis.
* Work closely with broader group functions on emerging techniques, frameworks, and regulatory requirements in risk management.
* Provide line management and mentorship to graduate team members.
Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in enterprise and operational risk management, including familiarity with established risk frameworks and processes.
* Background in financial services, with knowledge of the UK regulatory landscape (desirable).
* Degree in a numerate discipline—ideally Business or Economics—at 2:1 or higher.
