Overview

£4,775.36 – £6,676.04 per annum - Salary estimation based on 7.4 hours per week, 38 weeks per year. This role is Temporary until 19th of December 2025

PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG PERSONS (THE CHILDREN’S ACT 1989) Any offers of appointment will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (formerly CRB), a certificate of good conduct if applicable, plus receipt of satisfactory references, Occupational Health clearance, an understanding of safeguarding and qualifications verification. An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position as you will be working within 'Regulated Activity' within a specific place (i.e. the College).

This role is classed as working within Regulated Activity. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. By applying for this position, you agree to an Enhanced DBS check in line with DBS regulations.

BACKGROUND TO THE POST

As one of the largest further and higher education colleges in the UK, with unique colleges across two counties, we aim to deliver learning experiences which lead to the development of wider skill bases and improved destinations for all of our students.

In order to meet the needs of an increasing number of students requiring exam access arrangements or with dyslexia, the post holder will undertake Support Interviews and Access Arrangement Assessments to identify, organise and deliver support for such students. The person appointed will support the learning process in the classroom environment, 1:1 and small groups for those students who have been identified as requiring additional dyslexia support.


Duties and Responsibilities

* Be able to contribute to the teaching programme to a maximum of 864 hours per annum (full time hours) which will include assessments, 1:1 and small group teaching where an additional support need has been identified.
* Required to produce relevant reports, in line with JCQ requirements, that clearly identify and endorse a candidate's requirement(s) in formal external examinations.
* Ensure that any exam concessions are put into effect by liaising with the Head of Inclusion.
* Monitor and review the progress of students with dyslexia and provide data relevant to retention, achievement, success rates and progression.
* Liaise with Dyslexia Team Coordinator and other Dyslexia Specialists within the college to develop and raise the profile of dyslexia support provision.
* Establish and maintain communication with Personal Learning Advisers (PLAS), the Inclusion Team and lecturers to ensure that students with dyslexia have appropriate support and the review process is followed.
* Assist with cross-college Induction Disclosure Exercise, particularly regarding identification of students who may be dyslexic by analysing the relevant disclosures.
* Follow up the Induction Disclosure Exercise to enable more specific dyslexia assessments to take place and full dyslexia assessments as appropriate.
* Produce Individual Learning Plans for specific dyslexia support based on the above assessments.
* To operate within a learning process that maximises opportunities and resources and is responsive to the needs of existing and potential learners, thereby ensuring a high quality, inclusive learning environment.
* To use innovative, high quality, learning methods, modes of delivery and resources that will enable the college to progress inclusive learning in accordance with information emanating from initial and diagnostic assessment, allocated schemes of work and assessment schedules.
* Continue with professional development by liaising with external agencies as necessary e.g. Dyslexia Action, PATOSS.
* To attend college delivered ‘Teaching Essentials’ training


Hours of Work

The post holder will be expected to work such hours as are necessary for the proper performance of their duties and responsibilities, normally 26.25 hours per week for the permanent post, and 7.4 (Wednesdays) for the temporary post.


Essential Attainments

* A full teaching qualification equivalent to the Level 5 DET or PGCE.
* A postgraduate level 7 qualification in Assessing for Access Arrangements /Individual Specialist Assessment
* Strong Administrative skills, including IT skills with the ability to use appropriate dyslexia software packages.
* A willingness to undertake continuing professional development.
* In order to ensure our students are being taught the latest skills there is a requirement for Lecturers to maintain their CPD and update industry specific skills on an annual basis.
