Job Description
We are recruiting a Functional Skills Tutor to deliver Maths and English to small groups of young people with additional needs across Bexley, Havering and Reading. This role focuses on supporting SEN learners aged 16–24 with EHCPs, helping them build confidence and achieve Functional Skills Maths and English from Entry Level 3 to Level 2. Class sizes are intentionally small, usually 2–4 learners, allowing you to adapt learning and give students the support they need to succeed. Delivery Locations • Monday – Bexley • Wednesday – Reading • Friday – Havering • Tuesday – Work from home (planning and admin) • Thursday – Planning and preparation Driving is helpful but not essential as the Elizabeth Line provides a direct route to Reading. Delivery Hours • Bexley: 9:30am – 2:00pm • Havering: 10:00am – 2:00pm The rest of the day is used for planning, learner support and administration. Key Responsibilities • Deliver Functional Skills Maths and English (Entry 3 – Level 2) • Adapt learning for learners with SEN and EHCPs • Deliver engaging sessions to small groups (2–4 learners) • Support learners with confidence, engagement and progression • Monitor progress and maintain learner records What We're Looking For We welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds including: • Functional Skills Tutors • Teachers or lecturers • Teaching Assistants with workshop delivery experience • Support staff with experience teaching Maths or English You should have: • Experience supporting or delivering Functional Skills Maths and English • Experience working with SEN learners or adapted learning environments • Strong engagement and communication skills • A passion for supporting young people who need additional support If you do not currently hold a teaching qualification, support may be available to gain a Level 3 teaching qualification.
