The School of Humanities and Social Sciences in the Faculty of Law, Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Greenwich is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Sociology, 0.4FTE, fixed term for 8 months. Based at the stunning and historic world heritage site of the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, the School has a strong interdisciplinary ethos, offering course across a wide range of humanities and social science subjects. We place student experience at the core of our focus, nurturing critical thinking, creativity, and social responsibility through both education and research.
The successful candidate will have expertise in Sociology, including areas such as crime and criminalisation. They will join the Sociology programme team and take responsibility for leading and teaching modules in Term 2 of the 2025–26 academic year. In Term 3, the post holder will contribute to assessment and marking, dissertation or work placement supervision, and other academic responsibilities associated with the delivery of our undergraduate Sociology programmes.
They will be expected to serve as module leader for the first-year module Crime, Criminalisation and Society and the second-year module Key Thinkers in Sociology. While these are key teaching responsibilities, the role will not be limited to these modules. The post holder will also be required to contribute to other teaching as appropriate as well as dissertation or work placement supervision, assessment and marking across a range of modules on our undergraduate Sociology programmes and will be expected to engage actively in the wider academic, administrative and collegial work of the School.
