Offer description

We are looking for a friendly, professional and efficient immunisation nurse to deliver the childhood vaccination programme to our registered babies and pre-school children.


Main duties of the job

Part-time post of 5 hours per week.

Administering vaccines to babies and pre-school children registered at the practice.

Screen patients to ensure they meet the inclusion criteria in the Patient Group Direction.

Ensure maintenance of the cold chain process in line with the Standard Operating Procedures.

Compliance of the medicines management standards throughout the process, including awareness of contraindications of vaccination.

Ensure safe preparation of vaccine and provide skilled and effective, evidenced based nursing care to babies and young children in line with national and local standards and standard operating procedures.

Respond to and report clinical emergencies, e.g. anaphylaxis, in line with local and National policy.

Ensure adverse drug reactions are reported through the MHRA system.

Assess and use professional judgement to ensure babies and young children's consent is correct and make informed decisions regarding delivery of vaccines.

We operate from a new, modern, purpose-built integrated care centre and provide high quality care to over 7000 patients. We are a high achieving, well organised practice and currently us the vision clinical system and will soon be migrating to EMIS web.

We have a well-established, hard working, and professional multidisciplinary practice team of staff which also include a Prescribing Clinical Practitioner, Paramedic Practitioner, and a dedicated pharmacy team.


Job responsibilities

Clinicalassessment of patients for vaccination, review medical history and potentialadverse reactions.

Provide animmunisation service to our registered patients in the surgery.

Provideimmunisations to both children and adults in line with the national childhoodand adult programmes, to include seasonal campaigns.

Providesupervision and support to HCAs as required on-site.

Work withinNational Guidelines, written instructions and Patient Group Directions.

Ensure allpatient records are clear and recorded accurately, including any other relevantdocumentation.

Document allpatient contacts as appropriate on our clinical system.

To work closely with practice admin to ensure clinics are appropriatelybooked and all documentation is completed and returned to the health board in atimely manner.

Attend regularclinical updates and mandatory training as required.

Provide summaryfeedback of any updates and learning points following courses/meetings asappropriate.

Take the lead forany health promotion campaigns related to immunisation programmes.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* 1st level NMC Registered General Nurse or Midwife.
* Immunisation training.
* Safeguarding training.
* BLS and anaphylaxis training.


Experience

* A minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience.
* Experience of delivering vaccinations within a primary care or hospital setting.
* Experience of EMIS clinical system.
* Experience of dealing with the public/patients in a primary care setting.


Knowledge and Skills

* Competent in basic nursing duties required for the post
* A demonstrable commitment to professional development.

* An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality.
* Ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness and common sense.
* Ability to work without direct supervision and determine own workload priorities.
* Ability to work as part of an integrated multi-skilled team.

* Flexibility of working hours/able to work at the desired times.
