This is a permanent, part-time role within a prestigious collaboration between Anna Freud and UCL, offering the opportunity to shape and lead the research dissertation strand of a new MSc programme. You’ll benefit from hybrid working, close collaboration with leading academics and clinicians, and the chance to make a lasting impact on student learning and trauma research.
What you’ll do
As the Senior Research Tutor – MSc Psychology and Trauma (Child & Adolescent), you will oversee the research dissertation component of the programme, working with supervisors and students to ensure high-quality research opportunities and academic support in line with UCL standards.
* Designing and developing research projects within thematic strands (e.g. parenting, early years, trauma), in collaboration with internal and external partners.
* Supervising and supporting MSc dissertations, including acting as first and second marker, and guiding students through research ethics processes.
* Coordinating the dissertation module, matching students to projects, liaising with supervisors, and ensuring consistency in supervision and assessment.
* Contributing to curriculum development, embedding current research, EDI, and ethical considerations, including the responsible use of AI.
* Building collaborations with Anna Freud’s clinical services and wider research networks to generate new student research opportunities.
What you’ll bring
As the Senior Research Tutor, you will bring academic expertise, proven research experience, and the ability to support and inspire postgraduate students through supervision, collaboration, and rigorous research practice.
* Relevant professional qualification (e.g. Psychologist, Psychotherapist, Family Therapist) or PhD/professional doctorate in a related field.
* Strong research background with peer-reviewed publications and expertise in research design, ethics, and methods (qualitative and quantitative).
* Experience in supervising student projects, with the ability to guide research effectively and ensure academic standards.
* Excellent subject knowledge in psychology, neuroscience, and the impact of trauma on child and adolescent development.
* Collaborative and inclusive approach, with strong communication skills and awareness of equity, diversity and inclusion in supervision.
Key details
Hours: Part-time: 14hrs/0.4FTE – flexible but to include Tuesday afternoons. Programme teaching days and team days are expected to be prioritised.
Salary: £49,920 per annum FTE, plus 6% contributory pension scheme
Location: Hybrid (a mixture of home/onsite working): staff are working onsite for at least 20% of their working hours, at our London site (4-8 Rodney Street, London N1 9JH).
