The City of Richfield is accepting applications for a Public Works Worker. We have two openings: one primarily in the Street/Forestry Maintenance Division and another in Utilities Division. These roles are vital in providing essential City Services, including:
Street/Forestry
* Snow Removal
* Disease Tree Removal
* General Tree Maintenance
* Urban Forest Preservation
Utilities
* Water and Sewer Main Maintenance
* Hydrant Flushing
* Water Meter Installation and Repair
Nature of Work
Streets Division: Under the supervision of the Public Works Operations Manager, responsible for street and park maintenance of moderate difficulty and other duties as assigned.
Utilities Division: Under the supervision of the Public Works Utilities Supervisor, responsible for utility maintenance work of moderate difficulty and other duties as assigned.
Assigned Divisions
Public Works Workers may work across all divisions: Street, Park, and Utilities. Currently, we have two openings, one for each division.
Schedule
Standard hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with flexibility for extended hours, weekends, holidays, and on-call responses within 45 minutes.
Job Duties
Street/Forestry Maintenance
* Install, repair, and maintain streets, parking lots, and sidewalks using appropriate equipment and tools.
* Perform snow and ice removal from various surfaces.
* Conduct general tree maintenance, including planting, trimming, and removal of diseased trees.
* Maintain traffic signs, signals, and streetlights, and install pavement markings.
* Prepare sites, perform grading, and lay fill, base, and surface materials.
* Finish concrete work and perform street cleaning tasks.
* Conduct chemical injections on trees and document work.
* Collaborate with other departments and the public to complete tasks.
* Assist with vehicle and equipment maintenance and procurement.
Utilities
* Assist with water and sewer line repairs, respond to breaks and complaints.
* Maintain and repair fire hydrants, wells, and related equipment.
* Install and repair water meters, and perform readings.
* Monitor and maintain lift stations and perform inspections.
* Operate sewer televising and cleaning equipment.
* Perform general maintenance of department facilities and respond to emergencies.
* Operate various department vehicles and equipment, including routine procurement and locate requests.
Park Maintenance
* Maintain grounds, turf, and planting beds; lay sod and seed.
* Maintain recreational facilities and construct/maintain athletic fields and courts.
* Perform manual tasks like fencing, equipment repair, and snow removal.
* Maintain playgrounds and irrigation systems, and perform chemical applications.
Qualifications
Minimum: High School Diploma or GED, valid MN Class D driver’s license, and ability to obtain additional licenses within specified timeframes.
Preferred: Vocational training, experience in maintenance or utility systems, and valid Class A or B driver’s license.
Licenses and Certifications
Must possess or obtain relevant licenses, including a CDL with endorsements and a Pesticide Applicator’s license if applicable.

* Ability to operate equipment and perform manual labor.
* Effective communication and teamwork skills.
* Ability to work independently and perform mathematical calculations.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions, operate heavy equipment, and wear safety gear as needed.
