Consultant - Emergency General Surgery (EGS)
The Surgical Unit at the Royal Cornwall Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is committed to innovation and early adoption of new practices. We are seeking to appoint EGS Consultants with a subspecialty interest in Colorectal, Paediatrics, or complex interventional endoscopy (non-exhaustive). The successful candidate will join an existing team of Emergency Surgeons. Our department is fully funded and supported by the National Forum for Acute Surgeons.
We offer full support to develop any subspecialty interests within the job plan, including Colorectal, Children's surgery, or advanced endoscopy.
Main duties of the job
* Collaborate with specialty leads to establish working patterns and operating procedures for the department, including EGS wards, theatres, and ambulatory care.
* Develop ambulatory and alternative provision models to support patient care.
* Provide high-quality Emergency General Surgery services for Cornwall.
* Develop a specialty interest in areas such as children's general surgery, colorectal, upper GI, hepatobiliary, or complex endoscopy.
* Share responsibility with colleagues for daily management of the EGS department and develop a research portfolio.
* Teach and train junior staff and medical students, including weekly evidence-based governance and service development.
* Fulfill weekly duties, including out-of-hours responsibilities.
* Provide cover for off-site or absent colleagues.
* Participate in flexible timetabling with cooperation.
* Support multidisciplinary team colleagues and promote a respectful culture.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice
* On GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of interview
Experience
* Teaching medical students, peers, and MDT members
* Experience in Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance
