Job Description
As Trainee Cost Engineer you will be trained to provide cost management support to the work portfolio and will monitor, control and forecast elements of the costs during the Project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
* Work with the Project Managers to ensure contracts and forecasts are effectively managed by monitoring and analysing the cost report information.
* Implement the correct and appropriate cost management tool for the project.
* Under the make up the Estimate and assist in development and use of Project Control Structures (CBS, OBS, WBS etc.).
* Ensure the necessary cost management interface is in place with Finance and ensure regular communications.
* Active involvement in the change process against the base estimate, understanding the factors influencing each variance and change to the project’s cost baseline. Continually monitor Project Risk and Change status to maintain current forecast and communicating these changes to line management.
* Liaise with Project team members and supply chain and Clients with regards to progress and financial forecasting.
* Update the Cost Tool to comply with Project Reporting Cycles required by the Contract and Internal reporting.
* Investigate, review and challenge cost variances against the baseline plan.
* Ensure integration with the project Planning Engineer with the updates to maintain an aligned financial position with the forecast project plan.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
* High level of numeracy and excellent analytical skills.
* Good attention to detail with good time management skills.
* Excellent MS Office skills, well versed in the preparation of reports and information using packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint and using Power BI tools.
Essential Qualifications
* Minimum of HNC/HND ideally in a cost related discipline (not essential) or relevant experience.
