Legal Services Manager – Croydon Health Services NHS Trust
The Legal Services Manager leads and develops the Legal Services Team within the Corporate Governance Directorate, acting as the primary legal subject matter expert for the Trust.
Responsibilities
* Support the Head of Legal in leading and developing the Legal Services Team.
* Serve as the primary legal subject matter expert for the entire Trust.
* Balance hands‑on day‑to‑day legal casework with wider team responsibilities.
* Promote learning to improve patient safety and experience.
* Raise the profile of the Legal Services Team across the organisation.
* Ensure the Team provides efficient and effective legal services that minimise clinical, financial, operational and legal risks.
* Provide legal advice under the guidance of the Head of Legal Services, sourcing from external providers when appropriate.
* Support the leadership and development of team members by supervising and managing caseloads of clinical negligence, employers liability, personal injury and coroner‑related work, including attendance and representation at certain inquests.
* Lead the development and maintenance of strong service delivery, including healthcare legal advice.
* Work with professional leads across the organisation to demonstrate compliance with national policies and standards.
* Support the Trust in improving the quality and value of services by learning from legal issues, including claims.
* Ensure mechanisms are in place to identify and refer patient‑safety risks to the relevant teams for appropriate escalation and investigation, and to drive learning from claims and inquests.
* Lead the subject‑access‑requests team to comply with legal requirements for the disclosure of health records and personal data.
