About the Stroke Medicine Service
The Stroke Medicine Service at York Hospital provides comprehensive hyper‑acute, acute, and rehabilitation pathways. Key features include:

Job Overview
As a Consultant in Stroke Medicine, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering high‑quality specialist stroke care. The service is undergoing expansion due to increased demand, consultant retirements, and a Trust‑wide commitment to strengthening specialist stroke care.
Responsibilities
* Direct clinical care: hyper‑acute/acute stroke sessions, TIA clinics, ward rounds, thrombolysis cover
* Supporting professional activities: mandatory 1.5 SPA hours with potential to negotiate additional SPA time for leadership, research, or education roles
* Participate in on‑call rota
* Engage with regional neuroscience centres for thrombectomy pathways
* Contribute to national audits (e.g., SSNAP) and quality improvement initiatives
Job Plan
A 10‑PA job plan will be offered and reviewed annually. It can be flexibly adapted to clinical interests, such as research leadership.

Location and Relocation
York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is situated in North Yorkshire, covering an area of 3,400 square miles with eight hospital sites. A generous relocation package of up to £18,000 (capped at 30% of salary) is available for roles where relocation is expected.
Additional Information
Hybrid roles (e.g., elderly care, acute medicine, neurology) and less‑than‑full‑time opportunities are encouraged.
