Home Recycling Attendant - Ballymena We are recruiting for a Home Recycling Attendant to join our client, Mid and East Antrim Council based in Ballymena on a temporary part- time basis. Role: Home Recycling Attendant Location: Waveney Road, Ballymena Hours of work: 19.5 hours per week Hours of work will be confirmed on appointment Hourly Rate: £13.26 Closing Date: Monday 15th September 2025 @ 4pm Duration of the role: Temporary, 3 months with possible extension MAIN PURPOSE: To assist in the day-to-day operation of any permanent or temporary Household Recycling Centre within the Borough. The post holder will undertake, usually as part of a small team, duties associated with the operation of a Household Recycling Centre. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Service Delivery To advise and direct members of public where and how to deposit waste and to physically assist them to do so. To assist all users of the site with the segregation of waste and disposal of re-use, recyclables and other wastes. Monitor users of the site and refuse access in accordance with the site licence and prevent unapproved removal of waste materials. To open, close (in the absence of a senior attendant) and work in any Household Recycling Centre (HRC) at appropriate times as instructed by management. To ensure all buildings and working areas within the site and the perimeter of the site, including associated footpaths or car parks are kept clean and tidy, and partake in all cleansing schedules for the site. To ensure that all operational procedures and documents relating to site operations are maintained and completed effectively. To assist external and internal contractors with the servicing of the recycling facilities. To assist the Recycling Officer in education and awareness activities. To assist in the segregation of hazardous waste to ensure their proper treatment or disposal. To manage the flow of traffic within the site particularly at times of high usage. Control the use of and emptying of skips/containers at the HRC to prevent site closure. To control the use of waste containers to ensure that they are not overfilled. To record the tonnages of the various types of waste removed from the site. To record and keep details of waste transfer notes and other information required by the Waste Manager, and senior management. To participate in and assist with any waste minimisation or recycling initiatives at the site. To ensure that work activities at the site are carried out in compliance with health and safety legislation and site licensing conditions. To distribute salt and/or grit within the site and around the entrance and exit during periods of frost, ice or snow. To immediately report any breakdowns or damage at the site or variances of contracts to the Senior Attendant. To use plant and equipment provided at the site to control, process or handle waste. To record all complaints received regarding the site or its operations. To undertake the duties in such a way as to enhance and protect the reputation and public profile of the Council. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: ESSENTIAL: Applicants must be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples, that they have one years' relevant experience to include:- Working in a waste operations environment Working within a team environment Working within a customer service environment dealing with complaints and queries from the general public To be shortlisted for this role all applicants MUST meet the essential criteria.
