Overview
Senior Manufacturing Engineer role at Thales. Location: Templecombe, United Kingdom. This is a full-time position offered over a 4-day week (Monday–Thursday) with some flexibility on start times.

Responsibilities
* Prepare data for and run Production Readiness Reviews (PRRs) on behalf of industry.
* Identify opportunities for manufacturing equipment capital purchases with financial assessment (Cost-Benefit Analysis & ROI) to drive business competitiveness.
* Assess Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) of products by reviewing product maturity with project teams to identify and minimise manufacturing risks.
* Define, setup, and optimise manufacturing processes and tooling for a defined area or product line, including layout and infrastructure.
* Contribute to compliance of the production process with Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) regulations.
* Define and optimise manufacturing documentation, tools, and workflows for manufacturing and inspection based on data from upstream R&D and ensure production data integrity in ERP.
* Contribute to technological innovation to reduce costs and improve workflows while ensuring feasibility and reproducibility of the process.
* Attend Material Review Boards (MRBs) and Configuration Control Boards (CCBs); actively manage failures and changes.
* Define and manage the manufacturing process from high-level design requirements.
* Ensure manufacturability is considered throughout the design lifecycle and identify opportunities to reduce product and project costs.
* Lead product DFM/A (design for manufacture/assembly) reviews and product/process FMEA (failure modes and effects analysis) reviews.
* Drive design changes to improve manufacturability; mentor junior team members in DFM/A and lean manufacturing techniques.
* Liaise with designers, researchers, and industry consultants to incorporate latest industry and equipment advances.
* Define and implement manufacturing and process controls in production to achieve high-level design requirements.
* Drive the assembly and proving of initial development and pre-production units to capture lessons learnt for the final product solution.
* Design the layout of the manufacturing facility and identify new capital equipment and tooling needs.
* Set up new manufacturing lines using lean principles (5S, Kanban, SMED, 6 sigma, VSM).
About you
You will typically have proven experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, ideally from a time-served background with a Mechanical or Electronic assembly background.
* Significant engineering experience within a low to medium volume, light mechanical/electro-mechanical production environment.
* Awareness and use of continuous improvement techniques and lean manufacturing.
* Experience with manufacturing systems (routings, BOMs, Concessions, Change Requests, etc.).
* Broad process knowledge including machining, assembly (mechanical and electronic), and test.
* Ability to communicate clearly and produce high-standard documentation for project and external use.
* Ability to manage time effectively with respect to customer needs and demands.
