Senior Domestic Abuse Officer Contract: Temporary (up to 48 weeks) Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week Location: Swindon (on site / hybrid within service needs) Start date: February 2026 Swindon Borough Council is seeking an experienced Senior Domestic Abuse Officer to join its Family Safeguarding Service on an interim basis. This is a senior operational leadership role, responsible for managing domestic abuse staff and overseeing high risk safeguarding practice within a multidisciplinary Family Safeguarding model. The post holder will work closely with children’s social care, probation and partner agencies to ensure effective risk management and positive outcomes for children and families. This role is not a front line case holding position. Key responsibilities Lead and manage a team of domestic abuse practitioners and officers Oversee high risk domestic abuse and child safeguarding cases Make and oversee risk decisions, including escalation through MARAC, MAPPA and safeguarding forums Work closely with children’s social workers, team managers and partner agencies Support service delivery, performance management and continuous improvement Contribute to staff supervision, development and quality assurance Essential requirements Relevant probation or safeguarding related qualification Significant experience managing risk linked to domestic abuse and child safeguarding Proven experience managing and supervising staff Strong understanding of multi agency safeguarding environments Excellent communication, leadership and decision making skills Ability to work confidently under pressure and within complex systems Desirable Experience working within Family Safeguarding or similar integrated models Experience contributing to service development or inspection activity
