Your role at BRE
As a Senior Structural Fire Engineer at BRE, you’ll play a key role in advancing fire safety through a mix of hands-on experimentation, analytical modelling, and expert consultancy. Your work will contribute to vital research and real-world solutions, helping clients across the government and private sectors. Key responsibilities will include:
* Conducting fire safety analysis and research, including large- and small-scale fire experiments, structural analysis at elevated temperatures, and fire compartmentation studies.
* Carrying out façade and cladding assessments, and supporting fire-related site investigations.
* Performing finite element analysis (FEA) and interpreting complex data to produce clear, insightful reports.
* Preparing research and consultancy proposals within agreed scopes and to client deadlines.
* Leading and managing fire research and advisory projects from concept to delivery.
* Representing BRE at client meetings, technical seminars, and industry conferences.

Your profile
We're seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Structural Fire Engineer with the following attributes and qualifications:
Essential:
* Master’s degree or higher in Structural Engineering, Structural Fire Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
* Proven experience in a structural fire engineering consultancy environment.
* Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software such as SAFIR or general-purpose FE tools.
* Ability to interpret construction drawings and use CAD software confidently.
* Working knowledge of UK fire safety codes and building regulations (advantageous).
* Strong attention to detail, with a proactive and organised approach to work.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with proficiency in standard office software.
* Strong numerical and analytical skills
* Ability to manage your own workload, prioritise tasks effectively, and meet deadlines.
* Willingness to learn and apply new skills as project needs evolve.
Desirable:
* Familiarity with fire-specific Eurocodes.
* Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities.
* Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools such as FDS or PyroSim.
* Knowledge of structural design and assessment for both modern and historic structures at ambient and elevated temperatures.
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
* Self-motivated, confident, and focused.

Work Location Options
Fully Remote – This role is fully remote, allowing you to work from anywhere in the UK.
Mostly Remote – This role is primarily home-based, with occasional travel to our head office in Watford for planned meetings (X times per Y period).
Hybrid – This role offers a mix of home and office working. You will need to be within commuting distance of our Watford or Glasgow office, as you will be expected to attend in person (X times per Y period).
On-Site – This role requires full-time presence at our Watford office. You must live within a commutable distance.
