You will supervise, guide and support a team of forensic scientific services department staff spread throughout Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. You will ensure the effective delivery of forensic support to volume and priority (Stage 1) and serious and complex (Stage 2) investigations. You will provide first‑line management, including the recruitment and selection of new staff, training and development, performance and wellbeing management and the monitoring and compliance with local, regional and national guidelines relating to standard operating procedures, ISO 17020 and the Forensic Science Regulator.
Key responsibilities include:
* Develop forensic strategies to allocate appropriate resources and coordinate crime scene examinations in accordance with forensic quality standards.
* Be fully conversant with the National Intelligence Model and engage with local investigation teams regarding area crime trends.
* Attend tactical planning meetings to support the identification of crime series, ensure linked crimes are presented to support further investigation and detection of offenders.
Qualifications and Experience
* A degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Biology or another relevant scientific subject.
* Completion of a nationally recognised Stage 1 and Stage 2 CSI course.
* Signed off as a competent Stage 2 CSI with a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
* Significant experience in a related field, for example forensic work, general science/laboratory work including extensive, detailed investigative work, or a criminal justice role.
