Spirit AeroSystems is actively developing technologies that will enable zero carbon emission flight. As our research in this field expands, we are growing the Prestwick team based at our state-of-the-art research and technology development facility, the Aerospace Innovation Centre (AIC). The AIC showcases Spirit’s distinctive capabilities as a global centre for design and digital manufacturing of current and future aircraft. Partnering with Universities, industry leaders, and the UK’s CATAPULT network the AIC is a focal point to collaborate, innovate, train and develop skills for today and tomorrow. Spirit is developing structures and systems technologies to enable our industries transition to net zero emissions.

This exciting opportunity requires candidates to work in an agile, diverse and fast paced environment developing cutting edge technologies for aerostructures and future fuels integration. The successful candidate will deliver expert structural analysis and integrate across our design, R&D, systems, and test teams in a rapid design, build and test environment. R&D areas of focus include metallics, composites, future fuels storage and integration, digital factory & harnessing new developments in IT. Diversity and inclusion are key to innovation. Role Purpose

To act as the discipline expert for Structural Analysis for a particular work package or process.

This opportunity, based at our Prestwick campus, offers:

* 37 hour working week (half day Friday).
* 33 days holiday per year, rising with service.

Responsibilities

* Conduct structural analysis and review and approve the work of Structural Analysis team members and contractors to fulfil customer expectations.
* Working with multi-functional team to develop new concepts and architectures to provide improved / novel solutions.
* Identifies Structural Analysis methods and techniques to be utilised for particular work packages.
* Defines Structural requirements to be met for particular work packages.
* Defines specific Structures skillset training required for a particular work package.
* Assesses potential Structural Analysis tools and methods which could be utilised for the Business Unit and makes recommendations to senior management.
* Acts as coach/mentor to junior Structures Engineering staff.
* Supports Chief Structures Engineer in preparation for gate reviews.

Qualifications


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

* Graduate in Engineering discipline with typically twelve years practical experience or equivalent recognised experience
* Experience in applying tools, techniques and the use of specialised equipment
* A thorough understanding of general theories and applications covering a broad knowledge of Structural Analysis is required
* Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Company Procedures and standards relating to engineering, health & safety and environment

Decision Making Authority

* Approves others work to ensure Company, Customer and Regulatory requirements are met.
* Identifies and implements methods and techniques to be used within own particular work area.
* Assesses and recommends methods and techniques to be used for the BU.
