GSL Education are currently looking to appoint dedicated and nurturing SEN Teaching Assistants to work in supportive and inclusive schools across Derby. This role is ideal for individuals with experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with Autism, ADHD, and other learning or behavioural difficulties.
As a SEN TA, you will provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to the needs of students with a variety of special educational needs. You’ll work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and other staff members to ensure pupils can access learning, develop their skills, and feel supported in a safe and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities of a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant:
* Provide in-class and out-of-classroom support to students with SEN
* Assist in the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and EHCPs
* Support students’ academic, social, and emotional development
* Adapt learning materials to meet the needs of individuals and small groups
* Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to teaching staff and parents
* Encourage independence and confidence in students
* Promote positive behaviour and manage challenging situations effectively
* Support the class teacher in delivering a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom
* Foster a nurturing and respectful relationship with students
* Contribute to the wider school community and attend relevant training
SEN TA Requirements:
* Experience working with children or young people with SEN as a SEN Teaching Assistant or similar role in a school or care setting
* CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ in Childcare or Teaching Assistance (desirable but not essential)
* A degree in Psychology, SEND, Counselling or a similar field.
* Understanding of various special needs.
* A calm, adaptable, and empathetic approach
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
* Have an updated CV and an Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
