Job Description
A Laboratory Manager with an Inorganic Chemistry background is being sought by an innovative chemical manufacturing company to set up a minerals analysis and testing laboratory in Teesside.
YOUR NEW JOB
The role will involve setting and specifying a new laboratory to carry out sample analysis and testing to ensure that the manufacturing process meets required standards and qualities. You will ensure that the laboratory has the necessary equipment and layout to ensure optimum lab performance and ability to carry out the necessary testing and analysis techniques including ICP_OES and ICP-MS
Reporting into senior leadership, you will lead and develop a multi-disciplined group of lab technicians and scientists and will be responsible for best in class problem solving and technical delivery.
You will also be responsible for allocating testing needs to individual technicians to support the development, engineering and production teams
Create and document standard operating and safety procedures for the laboratory
Ensure planning and management of allocated budget, within pre-agreed tolerances, whilst delivering agreed services
Stay abreast of the competitive landscape and latest developments across industries.
Contribute to building strategic plans for NPD (New Product Development), Technical Road Map and CBI (Customer Backed Innovation).
Communicate effectively and ensure a level of customer focus mindset and a capability to have a commercial approach with customers, suppliers, and distributors.
Ensure compliance, both individually and for direct report, with all company regulatory, and health and safety procedures and guidelines.YOUR SKILLS AND QUALITIES
The ideal candidate will have a Chemistry Degree with a strong background in Inorganic Chemistry. A knowledge of GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) quality requirements skills is essential as is experience of ICP techniques.
You will need experience of specifying lab equipment and furniture and any experience of specifying and fitting out a new laboratory would be an advantage. You will have a robust attitude to safety and best practice and a strong knowledge of a range of Inorganic Chemistry testing methods.
Any experience within minerals processing or manufacturing would be a strong advantage.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well with external suppliers and various internal and external stakeholders is essential.
