JOB PURPOSE:
* Reliability engineering, reliability evaluation, physics-of-failure study, and formal qualification of InP and SiP chips/PICs
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assessment/evaluation of semiconductor and optical component ageing characteristics, failure modes & associated risks.
* Customer interfacing on reliability documentation and reliability work based on solid knowledge of physics-of-failures.
* Working closely with) product and quality teams to conduct root cause investigation and reliability analysis of field returns
* Definition and implementation of optical component qualification programmes.
* Problem solving, test engineering, testing and statistical data analysis.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS:
* Assessment of reliability risks and the rapid verification of product reliability to the satisfaction of both internal and external customers.
* Close working collaboration with chip R&D, wafer fabrication manufacturing and quality teams.
REPORTS:
* Report to Chip Reliability Manager
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Education/Qualification - Minimum:
* PhD in physics, electronic engineering, material science or similar related discipline. Strong academic background is essential.
Skills/Competencies Essential:
* Experience in opto-electronic component reliability and qualification (to Telcordia and JEDEC standards)
* Reliability/qualification programme definition, planning, and implementation.
* Hands-on experience on accelerated life testing and life-prediction of opto-electronic devices .
* Reliability modeling/statistical data analysis. Experience with statistical software package: Reliasoft/Weibull++, JMP, Minitab.
* Test engineering.
* FTA, FMEA and root cause analysis
* Hands-on experience in using FIB-SEM, TEM and EDS
* Excellent report writing and presentation skills, able to robustly defend data analysis and conclusions (experience in Journal papers publications and conference presentation).
* Candidates with early experience from universities or research institutes, as well as those with short- or long-term industry experience, will be considered and offered roles appropriate to their level. I am particularly interested in engineers with experience in reliability studies related to semiconductor devices
Skills/Competencies Desirable:
* Opto-electronic component, design, performance, processing and operation.
* Previous experience with customer communications on matters of reliability and qualification is beneficial.
* Previous experience on m entoring junior colleagues is desirable.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
* Good interpersonal and project management skills.
* Willing & able to pro-actively engage with other groups within the company both verbally and via written communication.
* Ability to travel worldwide to visit customers to discuss reliability work.
* Self-motivated, energetic, able to work to deadlines.
* The flexibility to cope with rapidly changing objectives.
Office is based in a rural location in Towcester, Northamptonshire and is not supported by public transport.
