Position Title: Part-Time Asst/Assoc Prof of Pediatrics, Harrogate

Department: DCOM CLINICAL MEDICINE

Position Category: Faculty Part Time

Job Description: The Part Time Assistant/Associate Professor of Pediatrics will be directly responsible for teaching LMUDCOM approved curriculum, clinical duties, and scholarly activity. They shall be held accountable for these obligations as they contribute to the attainment of the mission of the University, the School, and the Department.

Required Qualifications:

1. D.O./M.D. degree and Board Certification in Pediatrics;
2. Able to be licensed in Tennessee within the first year of hire date by the Tennessee Board of Osteopathic Examination/Tennessee Medical State Board; unrestricted Tennessee license and approved medical professional liability insurance must be maintained throughout employment (individual coverage for patient care for University approved activities will be paid or reimbursed by LMU - DCOM).

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Minimum of 5 years experience in clinical/academic medicine teaching and leadership. Academic rank will be commensurate with training and experience.

Job Duties:

1. Establish curriculum, subject matter and methods of instruction and those aspects of student life which relate to the medical education process;
2. Contribute to the planning, development and evaluation of courses and academic programs within DCOM;
3. Promote by precept and example a general atmosphere within DCOM of respect for knowledge, thought and inquiry;
4. Maintain intellectual integrity and strive for academic excellence in teaching;
5. Promote clinical service and demonstrate adequate standards of professional linguistic expression in writing and speech;
6. Have on file in the appropriate office an outline and list of the goals and objectives for each lecture;
7. Carry out lecture, seminar, small group discussion and/or clinical assignments and responsibilities effectively;
8. Design and present a course and/or series of integrated lectures and/or small group discussions;
9. Prepare examination questions as well as grade a course or portion of course;
10. Meet classes according to published schedule;
11. Commit to working in a professional multicultural environment that fosters diversity;
12. Provide service by attending scheduled faculty meetings and by serving on appointed and or elected committees as required;
13. Work, as needed, with the Dean of Basic Medical Sciences on curricular matters;
14. Serve as an active member of the department, working closely with the department chair to further the department and College mission and vision;
15. Complete required institutional, program accreditation, and other reports necessary for the operation and advancement of University programs, both on campus and at extended campus sites;
16. Provide clinical service/patient care and bedside teaching for students in the clinical setting;
17. Serve as an example to learners and colleagues of appropriate professional behavior;
18. Participate in clinic quality assurance and other service evaluation activities;
19. Participate in scholarly activity;
20. Serve as mentor to medical and other students;
21. Demonstrate and supervise students during clinical educational activities utilizing standardized patients and/or volunteer patients;
22. Supervise students during authorized and approved patient care events including health fairs, sports physicals, or community outreach programs.
