Overview
Project Kuiper aims to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites to provide high-speed, low-latency broadband connectivity globally. We are seeking a Satellite Communications Ground Engineer to join our ground gateway implementation team. This role involves designing, deploying, and commissioning high-performance ground gateways, leading installation efforts, and collaborating with experts to develop efficient deployment processes. The position requires on-site leadership for installing Kuiper gateway terminals, supporting site operations, and ensuring seamless communication with our satellite constellation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead on-site installation and commissioning of international ground terminals.
2. Deliver operational sites to the Kuiper Operations Team, including physical setup, network, RF calibration, and site acceptance.
3. Support troubleshooting and maintenance to ensure excellent customer experience.
4. Collaborate with partners to execute installation strategies.
5. Develop installation processes, mechanisms, and SOPs for large-scale terminal deployment.
6. Design system testing and verification processes.
7. Manage interactions with partners to meet project milestones and requirements.
8. Coordinate with stakeholder teams for ground system deployment.
9. Create team training plans and materials.
10. Provide regular updates to senior management on project status, risks, and changes.
11. Innovate and simplify installation and integration challenges.
12. Focus efforts in the EMEA region.
Daily Activities
As a Gateway Commissioning Engineer, you will lead installation teams, travel extensively (up to 50%), and be responsible for site installation, configuration, and acceptance testing of ground systems including antennas, modems, and supporting systems.
Team Information
The Ground Systems team handles the architecture, design, and installation of Kuiper’s Ground and TT&C Gateways, working closely with various technical teams to ensure optimal performance and customer experience.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
* Experience with satellite communications ground systems and operations.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience delivering technical projects.
* Knowledge of LEO and/or MEO satellite systems.
* Experience leading global earth station projects.
