Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Pharmacy Technician for St Thomas' inpatient dispensary at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.
Two vacancies: 1 Full‑time Equivalent (WTE) and 0.8 WTE.
Qualifications
* ACPT qualification.
* GPhC registered.
* High standard of dispensing in line with CQC standards.
* Experience in dispensing and checking inpatient medications.
* Strong communication skills and proactive working in a fast‑paced dispensary.
Responsibilities
* Dispense and check inpatient medications accurately in line with KPI's.
* Support the Principal Pharmacy Technician in delegating workflow and leading the team as a senior member.
* Train and support the multidisciplinary team, including rotation pre‑registration pharmacists and student pharmacy technicians.
* Maintain and investigate high‑cost medication and controlled drugs on behalf of the Principal Pharmacy Technician.
* Participate in dispensary meetings and communications.
* Undertake CPD and attend courses where needs are identified.
* Deputise for the Principal Technician where relevant.
* Carry out the final check of the dispensing process as an accredited checking technician (ACPT).
* Support the Principal Pharmacy Technician to ensure training for pharmacy assistants, student and post‑qualification pharmacy technicians is accommodated.
* Assist in induction, training and development of staff working within the section/department.
* Ensure trust policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to.
* Lead dispensary meetings and communications.
* Perform timely, accurate and cost‑effective dispensing, which may include chemotherapy and unlicensed medicines.
* Supervise the technical operation of the dispensary.
* Undertake environmental monitoring for technical QA, investigate and respond to temperature alerts.
* Investigate stock discrepancies and drug alerts.
* Carry out appraisals as required and keep appropriate records.
* Participate in recruitment of technical staff and pharmacy assistants when necessary.
* Participate in departmental audits and project work as necessary.
* Ensure equipment, furnishings, etc. are maintained.
* Work with other senior Pharmacy Technicians and Principal Technicians to maintain good communication and efficient working throughout the service.
* Maintain controlled drug and high‑cost medication stock.
* Accurately dispense and check medications in two fast‑paced busy dispensaries.
