Overview
Consultant Psychiatrist/Medical Director, Priory Hospital Bristol, Stapleton, England, United Kingdom. Full-time role (37.5 hours per week).
Salary: £176,000 per annum (plus an additional stipend for the Medical Director role), with salary determined by skills and experience.
Responsibilities
* Lead the recruitment, induction, and probation of doctors in line with company policies; ensure training requirements, specialist registration, and practising privileges for visiting consultants.
* Oversee medical staff appraisals, revalidation processes, and performance management; take decisive action on behavioural or clinical concerns in collaboration with the Hospital Director and HR.
* Provide strategic and operational leadership as part of the Senior Management Team; ensure healthcare policy, clinical governance, and best practice standards are implemented and maintained.
* Ensure effective medical cover across all levels, including out-of-hours and annual leave arrangements, to guarantee safe and consistent service delivery.
* Lead on clinical investigations, complaints, and crisis management; work with the Group Medical Director and Clinical Director to resolve issues and drive improvements.
* Oversee continuous learning by addressing complaints, incidents, benchmarking, and service user feedback; embed lessons across the hospital.
* Maintain your own clinical caseload, complete mandatory training, and represent the hospital’s clinical expertise with commissioners, partners, and stakeholders.
Qualifications/Required Skills
MRCPsych (or equivalent); Section 12(2) and Approved Clinician status; CCT (or equivalent); listed on the GMC specialist register and recognised in their clinical specialty. Ideally with at least three years’ experience at Consultant level and demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams in hospital or community settings.
You will have a track record of contributing to service change and improvement at a senior level, with strong leadership and influencing skills; a commitment to values-based and evidence-based practice. Leadership and management training, or willingness to undertake, is expected.
