Purpose of the Role
We are seeking CAD Design talent for future roles within the business.
The CAD Designer role is an integral member of the Production / Workshop Team, assisting in the design of a variety of items designed and manufactured in-house. The role will involve carrying out a number of tasks in a competent manner to ensure the production team are able to complete orders on time and meet our exacting high standards.
The requirement to work quickly and efficiently whilst having an eye for detail and being flexible in the approach to your role is essential. The requirement for clear and articulate communication, good time management, record keeping and organisation skills are essential to ensure you are being as efficient as possible.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
The following duties are not shown in order of priority or frequency and it is not an exhaustive list. As an SME business, you will be required to assist and support the organisation in multiple areas, but the primary duties and responsibilities of the CAD Designer are listed below:
1. Good knowledge or Rhino, preferably MatrixGold
2. The design of client & stock pieces from order specifications
3. To produce cast ready files; dealing directly with our metal casters
4. Assist in the designing of collections for the business with illustrative renders (as well as CAD) when required
5. Liaise with sales and production staff to ensure correct design specification and ensure internal deadlines are met
6. To use 3D printing technology to provide waxes in a timely manner ready for client appointments
7. Working knowledge of our technology (3D printers, laser cutter, laser engraver, cnc, etc)
8. Be prepared to be client-facing on occasion when design/manufacturing advice is needed.
9. Ensuring clean and tidy workspace
10. Assist CAD manager & Production staff where necessary.
11. Assist in training of new CAD staff when require
12. To adhere to the due dates given and ensure the highest quality of work is produced
13. To follow up with sales staff to ensure they are providing full and meaningful instruction and that they are answering order related questions in a timely manner
14. Intermediate bespoke client work
15. Able to cover the range from core collection
16. Accurate use of the company's internal IT and database system to record locations, costs and production costs in general throughout the process.
17. Welcoming customers and answering telephone calls as necessary
The list of duties is not exhaustive, and the post holder may be required to carry out other tasks under the direction of your line manager, Senior Leadership Team or the Managing Director.
The CAD Designer is a vital part of the manufacturing process and a great many people and departments are involved in ensuring we are able to deliver the correct orders to our clients whilst exceeding their expectations. Excellent communication and time management skills are a pre prerequisite of the role, however in addition to the primary duties and responsibilities already listed you will be required to:
18. Clearly communicating specific order instruction queries and following company procedures when processing client orders.
19. Ensuring all valuable items are secure at all times and no items are left unattended at any time.
20. Liaising with our security officer regarding security. Follow the companys security and product handling procedures at all times.
21. Follow company policies as laid out in the Staff Handbook and Health and Safety Policies at all times (e.g lateness/sickness etc)
22. Representing Queensmith professionally at all times when liaising with external suppliers
