Job Description:
Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.
Virginia Peninsula Community College seeks faculty to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semester and/or up to 8 credit hours during the summer semester. Teaching load is based upon student enrollment and staffing needs. Applicants will be part of a standing pool which the College will draw on as scheduling needs dictate. The adjunct faculty appointment contains no guarantee of continued employment. Courses may be assigned at the Hampton or Historic Triangle campus, other off-site centers, and online (asynchronous/synchronous): day, evening, and weekend classes.
Essential functions:
1. Design and delivery of instruction for day, evening, or weekend classes.
2. Responsible for student assessment and grading.
3. Maintains adequate on-campus presence.
4. Provides timely communication with students, staff, and administrators of the College.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum QualificationsThe successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
5. Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, with at least 18 graduate semester credits in Graphic and Media Design or a related discipline.
6. Can demonstrate a passion for the discipline of Graphic and Media Design and a commitment/belief that a diverse group of students from various backgrounds and ages, including adult learners, can learn this discipline, thus fulfilling the College’s mission to change lives and empower students to succeed.
7. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills appropriate for students, colleagues, staff, and administrator interactions as an individual or as a part of a team.
8. Proficiency in the Adobe suite of design and editing programs.
9. Demonstrated ability to teach Type Design, Layout Design, and Web Design.
10. Willingness to adopt an organized plan of instruction and the ability to modify, when appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
11. Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize documented student learning.
12. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and more and submit documentation as well as final grade rosters to division administrator each semester according to established deadlines.
13. Must be able to work at all campus locations.

15. Experience teaching online, hybrid, and traditional face-to-face classroom modalities.
16. Demonstrated proficiency and experience in using instructional technologies and learning management systems (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas) with ability to use technology to enhance teaching and educational experience.
17. Demonstrated ability to measure, assess and align student outcomes within courses or programs.
